What's In a Hero?

I was listening to NPR radio's "All Things Considered" last night and there was an awesome piece about the Mercury 13 women. I listened to some of these hard as nails ladies and I just have to say I am DYING to read the book!

For those who are unfamiliar with the Mercury 13 program it was a pioneering space travel program in 1961. I listened to stories from women who were pilots and biochemists and physicians... I was so moved at the stories and dedications to these women, and even became slightly perturbed at our own John Glen who was on the deciding panel that refused women the right to travel on the first space crafts.

You can listen to the program here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1301400

But anywho, the name of the book is: The Mercury 13: The Untold Story of 13 American Women and the Dream of Space Flight.

I can't wait to read it!

3/12/2010 4:48:40 PM   From:  Ash   If she was a prostitute it would double her earning capacity at a stroke.
3/13/2010 6:14:26 AM   From:  Ali   Well, the pic it had showed they were side by side. I think getting their freak on in both simultaneously would be a bit cramped, but maybe it could be done?

I'm sure there are men out there willing to try!

I'd vote curse.
3/13/2010 1:34:26 PM   From:  eddo   I wouldn't be all that keen on my junk touching some other guys junk, just to make it with a lady.
I'll take mine a single, thank you very much.
