The eyes have it....

I cannot stand sunglasses. Sure, they help protect us from glare and sun damage but when someone is wearing them, I never know who they are!

When I speak to someone, I focus on their eyes. I love eyes. They speak volumes about a person and you can pretty much read the truth about anyone once you've looked into their eyes. When people are wearing shades it really throws me off and makes me feel disconnected from them.

Another problem I have is I can't recognize people when they are wearing sunglasses! I swear my own mother could come up to me in a pair of shades and I wouldn't know her. An old friend stopped by my business the other day and started chatting away with me. After he stopped speaking for a moment, I looked at him and said, "This is going to sound terrible, but who are you?". "It's Brian," he said and I could tell I hurt his feelings because I didn't recognize him. I apologized and explained my sunglasses impairment after which he laughed, but I felt really stupid for not knowing who he was on account of some plastic sitting on his face.

Do you have this problem with sunglasses or am I just as empty headed as eddo? ;)

6/29/2009 7:50:48 PM   From:  eddo   I love my shades, and have become quite accustomed to them- to the point that if I drive without them on I get a headache.

Also, they help me look at breastesses while she thinks I am listening...
6/29/2009 10:01:42 PM   From:  MrsK   I can't stand wearing sungalsses. They look cool, and are protective - but they bother me. And besides, I can only keep them for a few days before they get lost somewhere in the bottomless pit of my purse.
6/30/2009 5:18:57 AM   From:  BCAR   Sunglasses rock.
6/30/2009 8:27:54 AM   From:  Chi   I can tell who people are with sunglasses on... I also like to wear them when it's sunny out. I think it's kinda retarded when people wear them when they are indoors or at night. But whatevah.
6/30/2009 9:30:32 AM   From:  emkay64   I like em, but I take them off when I talk to people.

I don't like talking to people with sunglasses on. I feel like I can't get a read on them. I can recognize people with them on though lol.
6/30/2009 10:49:11 AM   From:  Jez   if i'm outdoors i always have them on
6/30/2009 7:24:11 PM   From:  Ali   Oh I wear them, too.

I guess I'm weird for relying so heavily on eye recognition to figure out who people are...lol.
6/30/2009 7:29:46 PM   From:  ImWithStupid   I don't wear them as much as I used to, but have to admit, if someone is wearing sunglasses and I can't see their eyes, it takes me a second look or a couple of extra seconds to recognize people I don't see very often.
7/1/2009 8:14:03 AM   From:  mercury   I love me some sunnies... my eyes are really sensitive to the light, so if I don't wear them, they start tearing up and burning. It really sucks.
7/1/2009 8:15:44 AM   From:  mercury   clarification: not sensitive to just any old light- it's a sunlight specific thing.
7/1/2009 8:26:01 AM   From:  Hack   I wear regular perscription glasses... now if I had a pair of mirrored contact lenses that would be coooool
7/1/2009 8:26:44 AM   From:  Hack   prescription... I must need new ones.
7/1/2009 9:15:07 AM   From:  eddo   I have prescription sunglasses.
7/1/2009 9:33:33 AM   From:  Chi   I used to have prescription Transistors, but my son broke them recently. He's lucky I mainly wear contacts now...
7/1/2009 9:49:56 AM   From:  Hack   I have an old pair of prescription sunglasses, mirrored, aviator style, I look like a cop from the 70's in them... maybe the early 80's... hmmm, now that I think on it maybe any era.
7/1/2009 10:04:48 AM   From:  Chi   *Transitions-lol
7/1/2009 10:31:57 AM   From:  Hack   heh, you need new glasses too.
7/1/2009 11:29:16 AM   From:  eddo   I get a lot of "Blue's Brothers" comment when I have my shades on.

that's always better than the Blue's Clues comments I used to get...
7/1/2009 11:37:26 AM   From:  Ali   ^^^ LOL!
7/1/2009 11:40:21 AM   From:  Ali   There's a creepy guy who comes up to the restaurant to flirt with my help and wears glasses with black, super thick frames.

The girls call them "Molester glasses". LOL!
7/1/2009 1:35:31 PM   From:  Ali   BCAR has gorgeous eyes. The fact that he covers them up with sunglasses is downright criminal.

7/2/2009 3:54:55 PM   From:  wildbob   It's just you.

I live tin a very sunny location and wear them about 8 months a year.

7/6/2009 2:19:54 PM   From:  Peanuts   I have to wear mine. Even on an overcast day I end up squinting. My eyes are light sensitive.
7/8/2009 12:19:42 PM   From:  Kethria   I have no idea where any of my sunglasses are. But I hear they are the best preventative for crow's feet.
7/8/2009 1:00:38 PM   From:  MrsK   ^Really now??? I might have to rethink my thoughts...
