Does your ass squeak, too?
no. I'm not talking about THAT kind of squeaking.... I'm talking about cheapskates.

I've been known as someone who knows how to pinch a penny, stretch a buck, hunt a bargain and recycle something thought to be useless into something totally useful, but my husband has taken "cheap" to an all new level.

There are certain things that I feel are worth the splurge. Paper towels is one of them. Store brand are a rip off. They might be cheaper in price, but what good is that low, low price if you must use 3 of them to accomplish the same task that one Bounty can handle?

Lately, he's been buying the cheap store brand paper towels. And I think he's trying to guarantee that we never have to buy another roll. Ever. Or at least this month. He's been cutting them into fourths for use as dinner napkin.

Do you know how well a cheap ass paper towel cut into quarters cleans up dinner slop? NO? Well I'll tell you: IT DOESN'T CLEAN IT UP AT ALL!

I wiped my buttery finger tips on one the other night and totally saturated it. I needed 4 more by the time I finished my meal. And I'm one of the neater eaters in this household.

I can't complain too much, or I'll be delegated the responsibility of shopping for groceries and that might mean I have to occasionally get out of my jammies sometime before noon and deal with white haired people who don't know how to drive shopping carts; so I'm venting it here.

What kind of cheap things do people in your life do that drive you nuts? Maybe we can laugh about it together.... after I use the rest of that roll of paper towel to sop up my tears, of course.

9/26/2008 10:00:04 AM   From:  eddo   Fry's brand tp is better than any of the expensive stuff. and I always by the brand names on certain items: Nyquil, laserjet printer toner, deodorant, and toothpaste to name a few.
9/26/2008 10:03:22 AM   From:  mercury   only Cottonelle for my delicate nether regions. Additives in some brands tend to irritate those delicate parts ;o)
9/26/2008 10:05:02 AM   From:  eddo   too many dreaded poke throughs with Cottonelle and Charmin.
9/26/2008 10:07:28 AM   From:  mercury   trim your nails once in a while ;o)
9/26/2008 10:08:09 AM   From:  eddo   I ain't got no nails...
9/26/2008 10:08:16 AM   From:  mercury   I hate Charmin. Angel Soft is the next best thing to Cottonelle. And Scott should be sued for assault!
9/26/2008 10:08:36 AM   From:  mercury   maybe you should invest in some baby wipes ;o)
9/26/2008 10:09:54 AM   From:  eddo   do baby wipes flush ok? lol
9/26/2008 10:12:08 AM   From:  mercury   No. They'll plug up your toilet real quick. Make sure you get the flushable ones that they make for when they're toilet training. Or the Cottonelle ones that are made for grown ups
9/26/2008 10:13:57 AM   From:  Ali   I do all my own shopping, so I can be as luxurious as I want! lol
9/26/2008 10:16:43 AM   From:  MrsK   I am a fan of White Cloud personally.
9/26/2008 10:17:32 AM   From:  Ali   My aunt is one of the biggest cheap asses I know. I worked for her for awhile and she bought generic brands of everything. She never updated her hair salon (it's dark paneling with early 80's peach painted cupboards) and I swear all her ornaments for Christmas decorations were from the 50's. Now every year for Christmas I buy her a cute new Christmas decoration just so she'll put something new up.
9/26/2008 10:18:04 AM   From:  Jez   i'm the frugal one. man if i let frank do the shopping it would be all oreos and doritos and red wing boots and sopressata and whatever the hell else he laid eyes on. he's a fool for money.
9/26/2008 10:19:43 AM   From:  Ali   Aren't one of the toilet paper companies coming out with a 3-ply? Do we really need 3? I think I'd rather invest my money in a bidet than 3-ply TP.
9/26/2008 10:20:07 AM   From:  Chi   I like Scott, because it lasts longer and I use soap and water with it. The softer kind of tp falls apart if you use it when wet. I know tmi...
9/26/2008 10:55:30 AM   From:  mercury   is being severely obese a pre-requisite for having a bidet?
9/26/2008 11:05:57 AM   From:  Kethria   LMAO have you been talking to Omar? I love bounty but when the ex was there he would go through a roll of Bounty in about 2 days. It got VERY expensive so I bought a shitload from Dollar Tree. I am now down to my final roll because I rarely use paper towels, and Omar has vowed that I will never buy another discount paper towel again.
9/26/2008 11:32:53 AM   From:  Rani   yeah I went down the paper towel road with my man too..what is with men and paper towels? I buy the cheap brand only when I am running that desperately low on actual money and have to have paper towels.
9/26/2008 11:37:21 AM   From:  wildbob   My ass doesn't squeek but it occasionally quacks like a duck.
9/26/2008 11:41:05 AM   From:  timesjoke   Bounty all the way....right after my divorce I was hurting bad for money to the point I was eating beans and rice for most of my meals including breakfast. The ex cleaned out bank accounts and even ran up credit cards I did not even know I had in my name. I did use the generic towels and TP then but it was one of the first things I splurged on after I got my legs back under me. Ever try to clean up a broken egg on the floor with a generic papertowel?
9/26/2008 11:43:23 AM   From:  mercury   I actually prefer Viva, but those get really damn expensive. I splurge on those every once in a while and horde them for glass cleaning purposes.
9/26/2008 1:55:57 PM   From:  beags   I like Viva, but haven't bought them in some time. I have been buying giant packages of Bounty Basic at the wholesale club, and they work great. They're generic in price, and completely basic (hence the name)- just white paper towels that feel like paper towels. I was tempted to just go for cloth napkins and rags in an attempt to help the environment, but I figured it's better to toss out paper towels than it is to waste a bunch of water washing napkins and rags every day or so. As for toilet paper, we do the wholesale thing again- Charmin basic. Not my favorite, but it does the job. I like Cottonelle, but I only get that when I get a nice coupon in the mail.
9/27/2008 6:20:40 AM   From:  mercury   I bet your ass was doing a lot of squeaking during that beans and rice diet ;o)
9/28/2008 11:34:59 AM   From:  doheney   i am queen of paper towels. i literally cannot function well without paper towels in the house. if we run out, i'll make hubby make an extra trip just to get some. all those paper towels suck. one time, we got bounty, because we had a costco discount coupon in the mail for em. they sucked so hard, i could have cried. i had to use those puppies up fast so i could get the real deal, costco kirkland paper towels. we buy a pack and it lasts all month unless there is a holiday, and i use them liberally, for damn near everything. the bounty was a joke in comparison. wtf is up anyway with those mini tear as much as you need paper towels? nice in theory, but it is like the cheap ass toilet paper in public restrooms, you pull it, and rip one square, pull it again, get one more. i hate that shit.
